How to Clean a Whirlpool Range

Whirlpool makes a line of ranges for residential use that should be kept clean for optimal performance. Spills and spatters left on the burners and on the range surfaces can become baked on and difficult to remove if not cleaned up in a timely fashion. Food particles adhering to the burner elements will smoke and reduce the heating efficiency of the burner. Clean up is effected with ordinary household cleaning materials and a little elbow grease.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Warm water
  • Soft, lint-free cloths
  • Mild detergent
  • Glass cleaner
  • Mild abrasive cleanser
  1. Step 1

Ensure all control knobs are in the "Off" position. Grasp a control knob, then pull it straight off. Repeat for each knob on the control panel. Spray glass cleaner onto a soft, lint-free cloth, then wipe the control panel. Wipe the knobs with a solution of warm water and mild detergent. Grasp each knob in turn, align the hole in the back of the knob with the pin on the control panel, then push the knob back into place using firm, gentle pressure.

  2. Step 2

Wipe the burner elements with a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with water. Lift each burner element and then pull the element out of its socket. Set the burners aside.

  3. Step 3

Remove the burner bowls. Wash the burner bowls in a solution of warm water and mild detergent. Scrub the bowls, if necessary, with a mild abrasive cleanser to remove burned-on food particles and spills.

  4. Step 4

Wipe the surface of the range with a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution. Wipe again with a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with water to remove soap residue. Dry the surface with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.

  5. Step 5

Replace the burner bowls, then reinstall the burner elements. Align the terminal ends of the elements with the slots in the sockets, then insert the element into the socket with firm, gentle force until the element is fully seated. Lay the element in the burner bowl.

Tips & Warnings
  • For gas ranges, the grill over the burners will simply lift off instead of being plugged in as the burner elements are in step 2. The burner bowls will not be removable as in step 3. The basin under each burner should be cleaned as in step 4.
  • For stainless surfaces, wipe in the direction of the grain.
