Gyms can be a breeding ground for a number of germs. Prevent catching or spreading germs and illnesses by carefully using antibacterial wipes when you visit the gym. This simple and cost-effective method of killing bacteria can make quite a difference in the overall cleanliness of numerous surfaces found within the gym. The step is easy to take and the results are positive.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Antibacterial wipes
  • Trash receptacle
  1. Step 1

Use antibacterial wipes on any surface you touch with your hands. This includes the instrument panels on treadmills, the guide bars on many pieces of equipment and exercise bikes or elliptical machines than feature handles. One wipe should do the job in all of these cases. Wipe each surface vigorously, going over the area several times. Throw each wipe in the trash can once it is used.

  2. Step 2

Apply a fresh wipe on each machine you use. Don't keep the wipe you used on the elliptical machine for use on the treadmill. Dispose of the first one and get a new one for use on the second piece of equipment.

  3. Step 3

Wipe down the seats of exercise equipment like exercise bikes and weight benches. Perform this cleaning very thoroughly, since germs can lurk in folds and seams of vinyl or leather.

  4. Step 4

Clean surfaces on hand weights and stationary weightlifting equipment. Wipe especially well on vinyl surfaces like handles on weight machines. The ridges in the plastic or acrylic can harbor plenty of germs.

  5. Step 5

Clean surfaces on exercise balls, jump rope handles and exercise mats between uses as well, since the antibacterial wipes are safe for use on plastics and acrylics. Go over these items a couple of times, using a fresh wipe for the second application.

Tips & Warnings
  • Grab a wipe when using the restroom or locker room at the gym. The door handle is likely a culprit for many of the same germs you've cleaned away on the fitness equipment.
