How to Eradicate Carpet Grass
Carpet grass is an extremely hardy perennial that grows well in shady, high-traffic areas. The root system is very shallow so it not drought tolerant. People use it for erosion control since it creates a dense sod and requires very little maintenance. The grass seeds rapidly and can spread into areas where it is not wanted and can be difficult to get rid of. But with some perseverance it can be eliminated. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need

- Borax
- Weed control for lawns

- New sod or plugs
Instructions

1
Use a pre-emergence herbicide in late February. This will kill the seeds of the weed before they can germinate.
-
2
If you used the herbicide but the weeds still come in, spread borax over the carpet grass and wait for the grass to begin to yellow.
-
-
3
Pull out the grass, then put down a weed prevention product made for lawns to stop carpet grass from returning. Do not use the borax very often because it will begin to kill the lawn.
-
4
If using borax does not work, you may have to use a product containing glyphosate. Apply the product to the carpet grass. Unfortunately, this will probably kill the lawn along with the carpet grass.
-
5
Remove all the dead plant material and either resod or use plugs to fill in the bare spots.
