How to Make Crackle Paint With White Glue

People who enjoy creating and crafting often try their hand at painting techniques. Some of these techniques may be expensive when you must purchase different materials and supplies to complete different projects. Streamline your projects and trim the budget by using household materials to achieve the same results as more expensive supplies. One example of this is when painting wooden objects with a painted crackle technique. Instead of purchasing an expensive crackling medium, use plain white glue to achieve the same results.

Things You'll Need

  • Wooden object or surface
  • Acrylic craft paint (two colors)
  • Paintbrushes
  • All-purpose glue
  • Paint palette

Instructions

    • 1

Choose one of the craft paint colors and apply this color to the wooden object or surface with the paintbrush. Apply one layer of the acrylic paint and allow the paint to dry completely before proceeding.

    • 2

Squirt a small amount of glue onto the palette. Use a paintbrush to apply the glue over the painted surface, making sure you cover the entire painted surface evenly with a thin layer of glue.

    • 3

Paint the second color of acrylic paint over the glue while the glue is still wet. As the paint and glue dry, the surface will crackle. Allow the painted surface to dry completely before continuing.

    • 4

Apply a second coat of the glue over the crackled surface to seal and complete the project.

    • 5

Wash your tools and dry them with the paper towels.
