Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the liner seams and the areas around the seams (especially at the points where water has accumulated on the ground outside the pool). If the breach in the liner is not clearly evident, you'll need to get into the pool.

    • 2

Inspect the liner under water. (Wear the goggles in the pool.) Look for small bubbles on the liner. If you find the bubbles, wipe them away with your hand. Wait to see if the bubbles reappear. This could be the leak. Some leaks are easy to spot especially if there is a rip or puncture in the liner. If you still cannot find the leak, you will need to use food coloring.

    • 3

Use an eyedropper filled with dark food coloring. Go to the area where you think the leak is and release some food coloring into the water close to the leak. If this is the leak, the food coloring will be sucked out through the breach. Continue this step until you find the leak.

    • 4

Patch the leak with the pool vinyl repair kit. The kit should have a piece of vinyl and glue. Cut the vinyl a little bigger then the leak. A patch that covers 1 inch on each side of the leak is sufficient.

    • 5

Apply the glue to the patch material. Fold the patch in half with the glue inside if you are patching the leak under water. Get back in the water. Unfold the patch and apply it to the leak. Hold it in place for 10 seconds. If you are patching a hole without water in the pool, there is no need to fold the patch in half. You simply apply the patch.

Tips & Warnings

  • There is a pool dye that you can use if you don't have food coloring, but it does cost a little more.

  • Never use any old glue to hold the patch.

  • The glue must be the kind made specifically for patching pools.
