How to Make Your Own Wedding Favor Cake
A wedding favor cake is not actually a cake at all in much the same way that a baby shower cake is not made of cake, but instead, of diapers. Traditionally, wedding favor cakes consist of wedge-shaped "cake slice" boxes filled with candies and a card with the wedding information on it. Each box is topped with an ornament of some kind, relating to the wedding. Each box is assembled to create the larger cake shape. The tradition originated in Italy, where the cake is called a torta bomboniera.

Preparing the Boxes
-
1
Assemble the wedge box form. Leave the top open.
-
2
Cut out a square or circle of tulle a few inches across. Place the candies in the center. Gather the edges up and tie the tulle circle or square off with a length of ribbon.
-
-
3
Place the candy bag in the box.
-
4
Print or write out with a calligraphic hand the information about the wedding on card stock cut into small, square cards: the names of the groom and bride, the time and date of the wedding and the location. Place the card the in box and close the box.
-
5
Add an ornament to the top of the box with glue. This can be as simple as a bow or flower or can be some kind of keepsake relating to the wedding.
Assembling the Cake
-
6
Prepare enough boxes so that there is one for each guest.
-
7
Place the largest cardboard round on a table. Place the wedge boxes around the perimeter of the round, with the points facing inward.
-
8
Wrap the lower part of the layer in a long length of ribbon, gluing the edges together so that the ribbon is tight against the wedge boxes. You can use other trim besides ribbon, if desired.
-
9
Repeat for the remaining layers.
-
10
Stack the layers with the largest on the bottom and the smallest at the top. Put the flower topper into the hole at the top of the favor cake. Any bouquet of flowers will work for the topper, so long as the bouquet's flowers are wider than the hole at the top.

Tips & Warnings
Five Jordan Almonds are traditionally used as the candy.
The favor cake should be treated gently, so that it does not come apart until you disassemble it for the guests at the wedding.
