How to Remove Tape Glue Gum Sticky From Polyester Fabric

Polyester is a synthetic fabric that is lightweight, strong and weather resistant. It is commonly the fabric of rain jackets, tents and umbrellas. Most stains are easy to clean, wipe up and remove from polyester due to its durable shell. Adhesives, such as gum, tape and glue adhere easily to the fabric. To remove an adhesive material from polyester fabric, use a few common household items.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Scotch tape
• Goo Gone
• Paper towel

1. Cut a piece of Scotch tape the size of the adhesive mark.

2. Place the tape over the sticky substance. Rub your finger over the tape to allow as much as possible of the stain to be removed at once.

3. Pull the tape off. The sticky substance will attach to the tape and come off. Reapply tape to the sticky area until the adhesive is completely removed. If the sticky stain still remains, proceed to step 4.

4. Apply a small amount of Goo Gone stain remover to a paper towel. Goo Gone can be purchased from most hardware and home improvement stores. Goo Gone will break down and dissolve the stickiness of the stain making it easier to remove.

5. Blot the adhesive with the moistened paper towel. Reapply Goo Gone and blot out the stain until it is completely removed.

6. Rinse and wash the polyester fabric with warm water and mild dishwashing detergent.

• Test a small area of polyester with the Goo Gone to ensure you don't damage the material.
