How to Do a Round Robin Tournament

Round robin tournaments are a series of matches or games where each team plays every other team the same number of times. For instance, in single round robin tournaments, each team plays every other team one time. In double round robin tournaments, each team plays every other team twice. This type of tournament is best used when there are a small number of teams and enough time to complete all of the games.

Instructions

Determine the number of teams. Go to a round robin tournament generator website such as Print Your Brackets and print one that correlates with the number of teams in your tournament.

    • 2

Assign each team a number, so team A is 1, team B is 2, etc. This will simplify the scheduling process and allow each team to recognize when and who they have to play. A round robin bracket should have the team number and names on top (1: Team A; 2 Team B; etc.) and below a schedule of contests. A sample round one for a four-team tournament would be 1 vs. 2 and 3 vs. 4. Round two would have 1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3 and finally round three would be 1 vs. 3 and 2 vs. 4.

Keep track of each team's wins and losses. The team with the best record after all games have been played will be named the winner. If there is a tie between the tournament's top two teams, the team that won the head to head match up will be named the winner.
