How to Convert Fractions in Basic Math
The middle bar separating the denominator (bottom number) and numerator (top number) in fractions is also the notation for division. Through performing the required division, fractions can be converted into whole numbers, decimal figures, or percentages when the numerator is divided into the denominator.

Convert your fraction into a division equation. If you are converting the fraction 3/4, you would write out the numerical equation as "three divided by four." The equation for 1/10 is "one divided by 10." The fraction 8/4 converted to an equation would be written as "eight divided by four."

2
Perform the division operation for the equation you have just written down. When you divide three by four, the result is 0.75. Dividing one into 10 gives you 0.1. Eight divided by four equals the whole number two, or 2.0.

Move the decimal point over to the right two times to convert resulting decimal numbers into percentages. The decimal representation for 0.75 equals 75%, while 0.1 is equivalent to 10%. Moving the decimal point two times to the right for 2.0 gives you 200%.

Tips & Warnings
As you are calculating percentages, you will frequently encounter situations where you don't seem to have enough numbers to move the decimal point over twice. In these cases, zeros are added to complete the conversion. In the above example of 8/4, the resulting decimal number is 2.0. Moving the decimal point over to the right once only gives your 20. To correctly convert this decimal number into a percentage, you need to move the decimal point one more time. In doing so, you will have to place a second zero after the number 20 so that the correct percentage is 200%.
