Things You'll Need:
- Bowl or bucket
- Water
- Dish detergent
- Washrag
- Filler
- Sandpaper
- Protective mask
- Pearl glaze
- Paint applicator
-
Step 1
Fill a bowl or bucket with a mix of warm water and dish detergent; add dish detergent until suds form.
-
Step 2
Soak a washrag in the water-detergent mixture and wipe down the wall to which you intend to apply glaze to remove any surface dirt and grime. Rinse with a rag soaked in clean water to remove suds.
-
Step 3
Fill any holes or gaps in the wall surface to make sure glaze doesn't get into the wall itself. Products for fixing damage will depend on the material of the wall; consult with an expert at a hardware or home improvement store if you have any questions.
-
Step 4
Sand the painted surface. This is optional, as certain materials may be dangerous to sand or you may not want to sand. Sanding will even the surface and make it slightly rough, which will help the surface accept pearl glaze better. Wear a protective mask if you sand to prevent inhalation of sand dust.
-
Step 5
Wash away any sand dust with the water-detergent mix. Rinse with clean water. Allow the surface to dry completely before applying any glaze.
-
Step 6
Paint the glaze onto the wall using a paintbrush, roller or paint gun. If using a paint gun, the glaze may need to be diluted with water to allow for proper spraying; follow all instructions on your glaze product and on the paint gun for use.
-
Step 7
Apply a second coat of pearl glaze when the first has dried completely. Drying may take up to four hours. Allow second coat to dry completely before applying a third coat if necessary, or before hanging objects on or cleaning the wall.
