How to Stop Birdseed From Germinating

A common problem that people with bird feeders come across is strange plants suddenly growing beneath the bird feeder. This happens because bird food consists of actual seeds that will grow into plants if they reach the ground. When birds eat out of a feeder, it is inevitable that some of the seeds will fall to the ground. Rather than pulling plants out as they grow, prevent the seeds from germinating in the first place. Does this Spark an idea?
