How to Stop Birdseed From Germinating
A common problem that people with bird feeders come across is strange plants suddenly growing beneath the bird feeder. This happens because bird food consists of actual seeds that will grow into plants if they reach the ground. When birds eat out of a feeder, it is inevitable that some of the seeds will fall to the ground. Rather than pulling plants out as they grow, prevent the seeds from germinating in the first place. Oven Method

Preheat the oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.

Pour the birdseed on the baking sheet and spread it out evenly. The birdseed should not sit higher than the edges of the baking sheet.

Put the birdseed in the oven and bake it for 30 minutes.
Microwave Method

Pour the birdseed into a paper bag.

Put the bag of birdseed in the microwave and set it to high power.
