Voicemail comes standard on most, if not all, cell phones. Voicemail has also become a popular alternative to answering machines for home phones as well; however, the voicemail option has to be selected and set up before messages can be left and retrieved. The process of setting up a voicemail is fairly simple and straight forward.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Scroll through your phone's menu. Highlight the "messages" icon and use the "Enter" key to enter into the voicemail settings. Some service providers use an access number that is saved within the cell phone's "Contacts" list. If your provider does this, find the contact and call the contact as you would any other contact.

  2. Step 2

You will be prompted to set up a 4-digit passcode. Enter a passcode that is easy for you to remember, then hit the pound sign to confirm your selection.

  3. Step 3

Set up your greeting by following the system prompts. Most providers will allow you to record a custom greeting. You will also have the option of leaving the standard greeting. To leave the standard greeting, simply follow the prompts. To leave a custom greeting you will be prompted to press "1" or "2," depending on the phone provider. Wait for the beep and record your greeting.

  4. Step 4

Save your greeting by confirming it via the system prompts. Your voicemail is officially set up.
