1
Choose the proper clothing. Ill-fitting fashions usually make you look even bigger than you actually are. Avoid this by wearing figure flattering clothing. Choose shirts that flatter your torso, for example, plus-size individuals might consider empire styles that hide the tummy and, if you are busty, sweetheart and square necklines are best to avoid because of the focus on cleavage. Fabrics that skim versus swim are best to show off your curves and make you look pounds lighter. Pants should be fitted, but not tight, to avoid bulges. Monochromatic outfits tend to give make you look thinner than you are, as well.

Adjust your posture. The longer and more lean your body appears, the skinnier you will look. Walk straight up, with shoulders back and chin up. Think of it like this: the ears, shoulders, hips, knees and ankles should form one straight line. Practice slouching and standing straight up in the mirror to get a feel for your body's position when standing straight. Good posture can make you appear much slimmer and more polished.

Accentuate your best features. Sometimes, the best way to appear skinny is to take the focus off of problem areas and instead focus on some of your best features. So, for example, if you have a boyish figure with few curves, wear outfits that accentuate your long legs, which can be the key to making you look thinner. If you are plus-size, drawing attention to your legs or face can eliminate focus on your mid-section.

Walk with confidence. A classy, confident walk with head held high can make you look pounds lighter. This kind of marked stride again takes the focus away from your weight and instead puts it squarely on your overall sense of style and personality.
