How to Manually Update Software on a Mac

There are a couple of different ways to go about updating software on Mac computers. Installing the software updates manually usually means that for some reason, the "software update" item under the Apple menu on the main toolbar is not working.

      Go to the Apple homepage and click on the "Downloads" tab.

      Find the programs that you want to update. You can only do one at a time, so you may want to consider opening up several tabs if there is more than one software program that you want to update.

      Hit "Download now" on whichever software program you want to update. The most current version will be the one that is uploaded to your computer.

      Continue to update your software until you are complete with all of the updates that you want.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are still experiencing difficulties run a disk utility on your computer. If that does not resolve the issue, then it would be advisable to call Apple support.
