How to Set Up Air Compressors

Air compressors come from the factory completely assembled. Carefully take the compressor out of the box and check for loose accessories. The compressor should come with a hose, ordinarily 25-feet long and coiled. There should also be a barbed plug, which is attached to the hose, as well as some kind of hose retainer and an instruction book. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Check the compressor to make sure there are no visible signs of damage.

    • 2

Secure the hose retainer clip to the compressor and clip the hose to it. Make sure the power cord is secured in its wrap.

    • 3

Pull the handle. There may be a folding handle, which you should pull out.

    • 4

Face the back of the compressor and grasp the handle. Lift the compressor so that it rests on its rear wheels.

    • 5

Turn around and pull the compressor to the work site. Position it on a flat surface. Lower the compressor carefully.

    • 6

Make sure the unit is still off and the not plugged in. Confirm the pressure is at zero by fully turning the regulator knob counterclockwise and attach the air hose to the coupler on the side of the compressor.

    • 7

Drain the tank if the compressor has been used before. Condensation is a by-product of air pressurization and is to be avoided for corrosive reasons. Rotate the drain valves counterclockwise to open them and drain any moisture. Note that condensation is considered a pollutant in many municipalities.

    • 8

Consult the user guide for the air tool you would like to use and determine the maximum operating pressure the tool will accept.

    • 9

Connect the air tool to the other end of the hose.

    • 10

Plug the compressor into a power outlet.
