Instructions

    • 1

Determine where you are going to place the new wall sconces. Chose areas that enhance the room and are not directly above any seating. If installing on an unused part of the wall, mark each spot with chalk.

    • 2

Gather all items needed and place on a clean dry surface. Assemble the new wall sconce kit prior to installation; make sure that all fittings are tight except the faceplate as this will need to be accessed easily.

    • 3

Turn off the electricity and light switches of the wall or room in which you are working. If replacing an older light fixture, first remove the globe and light bulb, then loosen the fixture from the wall. Installing a new light fixture requires a hole to be cut in the wall and new electrical wires to be installed. It is recommended to hire a professional electrician to install your new wiring.

    • 4

Mark the ground wire. Check to see if any wires are in bad repair. If so, stop and call an electrician to do any wire repairing. If all wires are in good repair, cap off the ground wire and the hot wire.

    • 5

Hold the new wall sconce in place with a shelf, or have someone assist you. Attach the wires correctly, twisting them together and capping off with a wire connector cap. After all wires are connected, gently place the wires back into the wall.

    • 6

Cover the wiring with the faceplate of the new sconce following the manufacturer's guidelines and attach it to the wall. Tighten the faceplate to the rest of the sconce.

    • 7

Assemble a battery-operated wall sconce in the same way as the electric one, excluding all wiring steps.

Tips & Warnings

  • Install new wall sconces above eye level and use a softer watt bulb. If you are using antique replicas, make sure to read the diagrams thoroughly before hand. Stagger the electric wall sconces when installing in the hallway.

  • Read instructions thoroughly before beginning. Do not repair or replace any wiring unless you are a certified electrician. Replace or repair all old wiring fixtures as they can overheat and cause a fire hazard. Make sure brackets are secure to the wall to avoid damage to the wiring. Use only the screws provided as they are designed for wire boxes.
