Select your starting point and mark it with a temporary post. Attach a piece of string to the end of the post and walk to the spot where your end point will be. Place a temporary post into the ground to mark the spot and attach the other end of the string. This string will be used for guidance to ensure that the fence remains straight during installation. These posts will be removed once the permanent ones are installed.

Dig the post holes along the fence line marked with the string. Post holes should extend about 2 feet into the ground and be placed 5 feet apart. Use a post hole digger to make the hole approximately the size of the post. Place the post into the hole and pack dirt and rocks around the post for stability. Continue until all of the posts are securely placed into the ground. As you are installing the fence posts, use your level to make sure all posts are level with one another.

Remove the wire fencing from the roll and spread it across the ground in front of the posts. Cut the wire fence in 10-foot pieces, or the equivalent of two fence sections, and prop it against the post. Using your staple gun, staple the wiring into the posts. Staple the post in at least three places (top, middle, bottom) to ensure that it is secured. Continue this process until your fence is complete.
