Instructions

    • 1

Cut back on your dairy intake. The body produces enzymes called lactase to digest the lactose in dairy products. If your body does not produce enough of these enzymes, undigested milk will ferment, causing excess gas and bloating. Try substituting dairy with soy products.

    • 2

Eat smaller portions of vegetables, fruits, beans and proteins. Sudden increase of fiber in the diet is a common cause of bloated stomach. Do not cut these items entirely. Just eat less of them at mealtime.

    • 3

Eliminate carbonated drinks from your diet. The fizz in soda creates gas build-up in the abdomen and causes bloating. Substitute soda and other carbonated drinks with water or fruit juice. The water will also flush the body of sodium, which is another possible cause of bloated belly.

    • 4

Stop chewing gum. Many people are unaware of chewing gum as a cause of bloating, but it is. Chewing gum causes you to swallow air that gets stuck in the gastrointestinal tract, which, in turn, causes pressure and bloating. Try sucking on lozenges instead.,

    • 5

Skip spicy foods. Spices and seasonings such as pepper, cloves, chili powder, hot sauce, vinegar, barbecue sauce and horseradish can increase the production of stomach acid, which causes irritation and may lead to bloating.
