Things You'll Need:
- Insecticide or pesticide
- Insect growth regulator
- Vacuum
- Program or Frontline
-
Step 1
Spray insecticide or pesticide outside onto your grass, trees, bushes, and around your home. Use a mixture of Nylar and Suspend SC or Permethrin Pro to get rid of the fleas on the property. This will need to be done two times a year, particularly before the summer and spring.
-
Step 2
Check your pet. If you have one or more pets that have fleas, bathe them with flea shampoo. You will need to take your pets to a veterinarian and get them a prescription for a flea killer such as Program or Frontline. Clean all of the pet's bedding as well. Continue to wash your pet's bedding at least every other day until the fleas are gone.
-
Step 3
Use an insect growth regulator (IGR), such as methoprene or pyriproxyfen, inside your home to prevent fleas from maturing and reproducing . You will need to continue to use this product about every four months. To avoid exposing your pet to too many different types of chemicals, you can use an IGR spray outside as well.

Step 4
Vacuum daily. After vacuuming, remove the vacuum bag and dispose of the stuff in it away from the property. Be sure to vacuum under furniture where fleas may hide. Once you get rid of the fleas, vacuum once or twice weekly.
