How to Clean the Tub in a Kenmore Washer

Kenmore offers several types of washing machines, including stackables and top-loaders. If you do many loads a week, you will need to clean the tub often. Likewise, when wet clothes sit in a washing machine for a long time, creating a smell or filth in the washer tub, you will need to clean the tub then, too. It is important to run an empty cycle before the washer's first use, and about every four months after that. You should also clean the Kenmore washer tub at least every month for optimum performance.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Laundry detergent
  • Spray bottle
  • Dish soap
  • Microfiber rag
  • Towel
  1. Step 1

Add about half of the detergent you normally use into the washer tub. Close the lid and press the "Normal" or "Casual" cycle on the Kenmore washer. Start the washer to run the empty load.

  2. Step 2

Open the spray bottle and insert a capful of mild dish soap. Run the hot water faucet and fill the rest of the bottle with water. Close the lid tightly and shake vigorously to mix the cleaning solution.

  3. Step 3

Spray about five squirts on each side of the Kenmore washer tub. Let the solution sit on the surface for about five minutes.

  4. Step 4

Scrub the Kenmore tub with a microfiber rag in a circular manner. Start at the bottom of the washer and scour each side to the top. If a smell or dirt still lingers, repeat Steps 3 and 4.

Tips & Warnings
  • After cleaning and each laundry session, dry the tub with a clean towel. This may aid in preventing mold and mildew and the odors they cause.
  • Do not use abrasive chemicals or harsh cleaning materials. Otherwise, damage or scratches can mar the Kenmore washer tub.
