How to Create a Poem From the Letters of Your Name
Poets are known for using creative techniques such as word play or figures of speech to deliver the poems. Other poetic devices include alliteration, eye rhyming and inner rhyming. One creative thinking exercise you can use to create a poem is to manipulate the letters of your name to come up with something random. This is called an acrostic poem. Acrostic poem writing can lead to fun, original poems you may not have come up with using traditional methods.

1
Make an anagram of your name to use as the title of your poem. To make an anagram of your name, simply rearrange the letters in your name to create a word or phrase. You should use every letter of your first, last, or both names and use them only once. An anagram for Carl Hose, for instance, is chorales. A chorale is a Christian hymn typically sung by a church congregation. This title could spark all sorts of poetic ideas.

2
Create an opening word from each letter in your name. Each letter of your name should start a new line in your poem. Be creative and think of words that will be easy to build upon. The word you come up with for each letter will only be the first word of that line of poetry. Try to make the words you create fit the subject or theme of your poem's title.

Write a full line of poetry for each of the first words you came up with for the letters of your name. You can write anything you want, but it's more challenging to write a poem that makes complete sense. It may take some thought, but writing a poem this way is an excellent way to exercise the creative thinking process.
