How to Make a Candlestick
Making homemade candlesticks is a process that has been used for many centuries. Even though this craft is completed in many different ways, the process is simple. Factory-made candlesticks can be made by either dipping the wick or using molds. With homemade candlesticks, the process of dipping the wick in melted wax is preferred. Because the process is varied, homemade candlesticks take on the personality of the individual who is making the candle.

Making a Hand Dipped Candle
-
1
Place paraffin wax in double-boiler. Melt wax until liquid form (approximately 20 minutes). Stir occasionally with wooden spoon.
-
2
Cut candlewick so it is 4 inches longer than candlestick length desired. Tie one end of the wick to the metal nut. Tie the other end to the handle of the wooden spoon.
-
-
3
Slowly, dip the candlewick into the melted wax. Slowly removed the candlewick from the wax. Straighten with fingers if wick is bent. Let wax harden before next dipping.
-
4
Repeat the dipping process until the candlestick is the diameter desired. For smaller candlesticks, minimal dipping process will be 10 dips. The more dips the larger the diameter will become.
-
5
When the candle has reached the desired diameter, cut the metal nut from the bottom of the candlestick. Cut the candlewick from the wooden spoon approximately 1/2" about the wax.

Tips & Warnings
To color the paraffin wax, add desired color of crayons with paper removed to the wax and let melt to liquid form. The more crayons added, the more vibrant the color.
The drying process between layers of paraffin wax may be sped up by simply dipping the candlewick into a jar of cold water.
Do not get the liquid parrafin wax on skin, it will burn. If the liquid parrafin does get on the skin, run cold water over the wax immediately to harden the wax, then remove.
