How to Wear a Flag Pin

One way to display your patriotism and national pride is by wearing a flag pin. A flag pin is a piece of jewelry that depicts the United States flag. Since the pin is a representation of the flag, it should be worn respectfully and in accordance with the United States Flag Code.

      Wear the flag pin on the left side of your body, close to your heart.

      Make sure the pin is always right-side up. Displaying the flag upside down is a signal of distress, according to the US Flag Code. Since the pin represents the flag, it would be disrespectful to wear it upside down.

      Remove the flag pin before laundering your clothing. Flag etiquette dictates that the flag should not be displayed in poor condition; exposure to water and detergent could chip the paint or cause the metal to rust.
