How to Install a Gfi Electrical Outlet
Adding a GFI or GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupt) outlet to your home can be easy and bring safety to your family. Installing a GFI wall outlet adds extra protection so that when the circuit becomes tripped for any reason, it will trip the internal breaker inside the outlet as well as the main breaker box for double safety. As a general rule, you should install a GFI/GFCI outlet ianywhere in a home where there this is water, such as the kitchen, bathroom and garage. Does this Spark an idea?

Terminate the power at the main breaker box in the house. Using the electrical tester, test each line to ensure that the power is off to prevent shock or death.

Using the screwdriver, remove the old outlet and disconnect the wiring on the back. Discard the old receptacle.

Cut the wiring about one inch, and strip the insulation off about one inch to start with fresh wire. There will be three wires: black (hot), white (neutral), and green (ground).

Looking at the back side of the receptacle, connect the black wire to the brass screw and tighten. Connect the white wire to the silver screw and tighten. Connect the green wire to the green screw, and tighten this for the ground.

Attach the receptacle inside the existing electrical box using the included screws. Mount the cover plate.

Turn the power back on at the main breaker box. Using the electrical test, carefully test each line following the manufacturer guidelines to ensure the outlet is properly powered.
