Most software programs aren't actually sold to a user. Rather they are given a license to use the software by the company. In the event that you want to give the software to someone else legally, you must legally transfer the license given to you by the software company to the new owner. Doing this will enable the user to use the software, even if the software is protected against copyright or fraud.

Uninstall the software from your computer. Use the uninstall program provided with the software if possible, or use the uninstall utility located in your computer's control panel.

Remove any hardware or equipment that came with the software, such as a special keyboard or remote control.
