Things You'll Need:
- Wrench
- Ratchet and socket
- Catch pan, if necessary
- Slip joint pliers, if necessary

Step 1
Make a note of the radio security code, if necessary.

Disconnect the negative and positive battery cables using a wrench starting with the negative side first. Then remove the battery from the car.

Unplug the cooling fan electrical connector and detach the assembly wiring guide brackets using a ratchet and socket.

Drain 3 qt. of coolant if you need more room to remove the fan assembly. Larry Warren, in his Honda Civic Haynes Repair Manual, suggests draining only 3 qt. of coolant before removing the hose. Open the radiator drain valve and use a catch pan for the coolant. Then close the radiator drain valve. Use a pair of slip joint pliers to remove the hose clamp. Then twist and pull the hose off the radiator fitting.

Step 5
Remove the wire harness guides from the battery tray using the ratchet and socket.

Step 6
Remove the battery tray using the ratchet and socket.

Step 7
Take the wire harness holders and electrical connector for the A/C compressor clutch off the upper radiator support bracket. Use the ratchet and socket.

Step 8
Unscrew the cooling fan assembly using the ratchet and socket. Then carefully remove the fan assembly from the vehicle.

Step 1
Set the new cooling fan assembly in place and tighten the mounting bolts using the ratchet and socket.

Step 2
Install the wire harness holders and electrical connector for the A/C compressor on the upper radiator support bracket. Use the ratchet and socket.

Step 3
Install the battery tray using the ratchet and socket.

Step 4
Install the wire harness guides on the battery tray using the ratchet and socket.

Step 5
Connect the upper radiator hose to the radiator, if you had to remove it. Secure the hose with the clamp using the slip joint pliers.

Step 6
Plug the cooling fan electrical connector and attach the assembly wiring guide brackets using the ratchet and socket.

Step 7
Set the battery on the tray and connect the negative and positive battery cables using the wrench. Connect the positive cable first.

Step 8
Enter the radio security code, if necessary, following the instructions on your car owner's manual.

Step 9
Refill the cooling system following the instructions on your car owner's manual.
