How to Remove Chewing Gum From a Rug
Of the many stains and spots that get on your carpet, chewing gum is among the most annoying. Difficult to remove without spreading around, and very sticky to the touch, removing chewing gum from carpet can be a very frustrating task. Using basic items from around the house with the added assistance of a commercial adhesive remover, you can remove gum from carpet fairly easily without damaging the carpets fibers. Things You'll Need
- Baggie or plastic bag
- Five ice cubes
- Butter knife
- Adhesive removing solvent such as Goo Gone or Duck Adhesive Remover

Place ice cubes in a baggie.

Place the baggie on top of the gum on the carpet, making sure the entire wad of gum is covered with the ice. Allow the ice to sit on the gum for about 20 minutes or until the gum is frozen and hardened.

Use the handle of the butter knife to break up the gum on the carpet, and use the blade to scrape the gum off the carpet fibers.

Apply the residue removing solvent to the carpet if any stickiness remains. Be sure to follow all the directions on the product bottle and to spot-test the product in an inconspicuous place to make sure it won't damage the carpet.
