How to Make After Swimming Ear Drops

Swimmer's ear is an "an inflammation or infection of the outer ear canal," according to Pool Solutions. It's caused by bacteria and fungi inside wet, alkaline ears. Although anyone can get this condition, it most often strikes swimmers because they spend so much time in alkaline pool water. Though commercial products can prevent or treat this condition, you can easily make after swimming ear drops at home.

  • If the rubbing alcohol causes an uncomfortable stinging or burning sensation in your ear, use white vinegar instead.

  • Do not use ear drops if you have an existing ear infection, an ear tube or a perforated eardrum. Seek professional medical help if your ear hurts, you notice a hearing loss or your ear drains.
