Clip-in hair extensions are a quick way to get long, full locks of hair. They blend in with your natural hair and, if applied correctly, can be impossible to see. The problem with clip-in hair extensions is they are usually expensive. You can make your own with a few simple tools. The tools themselves are relatively inexpensive, and you can keep them for future use.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hair extensions
  • Hair clips
  • Needle
  • Hair thread
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

Purchase the hair extension wefts, or tracks as they are sometimes called, at a local beauty store. They come in packages that usually contain enough hair for one person.

  2. Step 2

Purchase the hair extension clips, a sewing needle, scissors and some thread. The needle and thread can be purchased at the beauty store as well.

  3. Step 3

Pick up one of the hair tracks and make sure the inside of the hair track is facing you. You can tell by looking at where the hair is sewn into a fabric track at the top. The inside is where you sew in the clips. Lay the track back down, with the inside of the track facing up.

  4. Step 4

Thread your needle using the special hair extension thread. Double or triple knot the thread to get a good hold.

  5. Step 5

Hold a clip on top of the hair track where the hair meets the fabric strip at the top. You will be sewing the clip directly into the fabric strip.

  6. Step 6

Use the needle and thread to sew the clip onto the hair track. You will need one clip on each side and possibly one in the middle if the hair track is 4 inches or longer.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are trying to match hair color, then compare the person's natural hair to the hair weft extensions in the sunlight.
  • Make sure you are sewing the hair clip on in the correct direction, otherwise the clip will not open.
