How to Make Metallic Pom Poms
Metallic pompoms are a staple accessory for cheerleaders everywhere. If you have an aspiring cheerleader at home, you can make your own metallic pompoms and save on the expense of buying them. With a few simple steps and supplies, you can make metallic pompoms in a variety of colors for playtime fun.

1
Use metallic ribbon for your base materials. Wrap the ribbon around your forearm from wrist to elbow, like you would wrap up an extension cord or Christmas lights. You should make approximately 50-60 rounds for a full pompom, and you can even hold two different ribbons together at once to make a two-color pompom (in this case wrap 25-30 times).

2
Pull the ribbon loops off your arm, fold in half, and cut the loops furthest from the fold, holding the folded section firmly in your hand.

3
Use metallic gift wrap. For this type of material, you will have to cut your own strips to resemble pompom strands (approximately 1-inch wide and 2-feet long). You will need 100 strips, or 50 of each color if using two colors. Fold these strips in half and hold the folded section the same way you would with the ribbon in Step 1.
-
4
Wrap duct tape around the folded ribbon or gift wrap to make a handle. Wrap a section that is approximately 3- to 4-inches long so the handle will be easy to grip during "cheering."
-
5
Cut the ends that are furthest from the handle until the pom pom reaches the desired size and fullness. Now your little cheerleader is ready to go.
