How to Get Your Staff to Have a Good Attitude
Bad attitudes among staff members are contagious, and a staff full of bad attitudes is bad for business. Fortunately, good attitudes are equally contagious. If you want to succeed in business, you need to create an "epidemic of positivity" throughout your employees. To maintain such good morale, your employees must be prepared, must feel valued, and must get rewarded. Use the steps below to build your plan to make good attitudes catching.

They Must Be Prepared
-
1
Be certain that all your staff has adequate training. Nothing is more frustrating than being given responsibility for a task without knowing how to do it.
-
2
Make sure that your employees have all the tools they need to accomplish their assignments.
-
-
3
Regularly update training for every employee in every department. This can range from a weekly email with tech news relevant to the job to a paid course on the newest productivity software.
-
4
Don't mistake indoctrination for training. Long meetings on the minutia of company policy are not training. It's important to keep employees abreast of what's happening in the company, but be sure they're also being taught how to do their jobs well.
They Must Feel Valued
-
5
Get personal with your employees. You don't have to invite them to dinner or listen to their embarrassing personal problems. But do remember their names and know enough about them to ask personalized questions when you're sharing an elevator.
-
6
Ask for their opinions about their areas of expertise. Even if you wind up making different decisions, being a part of the process helps everyone's morale.
-
7
Point out good results publicly.
-
8
If you need to talk about failure or poor results, do so behind closed doors. Only involve people in this conversation who absolutely have to know.
-
9
Make reasonable exceptions to the rules. Instituting "casual Fridays" is a popular example. People like to feel like they're special, so if you allow the occasional breech of protocol, moral will improve.
They Must Get Rewarded
-
10
Make sure that your employee compensation package is at least comparable to similar jobs in the field. If you can afford it, make your compensation a shade better than the competition.
-
11
Give "attaboys." Whether you establish an Employee of the Month program or just give a formal pat on the back, be sure to compliment your employees when you catch them doing something right.
-
12
Celebrate success. Set attainable benchmarks on the way to meeting far-reaching goals. Celebrate reaching those benchmarks with a party or other special event.

Tips & Warnings
Remember that even if you implement every single step listed above, you won't be able to please everybody all of the time. People are allowed to have bad days, and remembering that will also contribute to an overall boost in morale.
Sometimes you're going to run into somebody who has a bad attitude no matter what you do. In many cases, your best option is to ask that employee to seek their success with another company.
