Psoriasis is a disfiguring, frustrating skin disease. Known as "heartbreak disease," there is no proven cause of this psoriatic disease and there is no psoriasis treatment known for its cure. However, there are several theories that involve the diet which may control or prevent psoriasis.

      Eat foods rich in Vitamin D. Vitamin D has appeared in studies that show relief of psoroiasis. Recently, vitamin D has been given to people affected with psoriasis and improvement has been noticed Fish, beef, dairy products and vegetables are sources of vitamin D.

      Stock up on foods rich in Vitamin in E. These foods are claimed to alleviate the symptoms of psoriasis. Examples of foods rich in this vitamin are sweet potato, spinach, almonds, wheat germ and sunflower seeds.

      Increase your intake of Omega 3 and Omega 6 Fatty Acids. To achieve good health, Omega 6 and omega 3 fatty acids should balance. It is evident that the American diet is extremely overloaded with omega 6 fatty acids that are common in prepared foods. Credit has been given to the theory that psoriasis sufferers would benefit from avoidance of processed foods and addition of omega 3 fatty acids to the diet. Food sources of omega 3 oils are fish oil, seeds and dark leafy green vegetables.

      Incorporate herbs and spices into your diet that have proven skin benefits. There are numerous herbs that claim to help those who suffer from psoriasis and offer a wealth of research subjects. Only part of the list includes peppermint, parsley, alfalfa, burdock root, eyebright, paprika, oat straw, fennel seed, lemon grass, plantain, yellow dock, raspberry leaf, hops, eyebright, cayenne, nettle, red clover oat straw, rose hips, horsetail, sage, chickweed, violet leaves, watercress, burdock root, kelp, and mullein.
