Garage sales are a great way to get rid of old stuff lying around your house. Garage sales can also be a good way to make money to put aside in a savings account or for a family vacation. One of the best ways to have a successful garage sale is to properly prepare items that will be sold at the garage sale.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Masking Tape or Garage Sale stickers
  • Box marked Garage Sale
  • Sharpie Marker
  • Tables
  1. Step 1

Spend a few hours looking around your home or apartment for things that you want to sell at the garage sale. Ask yourself, What do I not use anymore? What do I want to get rid of and try to make some money by selling at the garage sale? Put all of these items in boxes marked GARAGE SALE.

  2. Step 2

Make sure to gather things that are appropriate to sell at a garage sale. Avoid trying to sell underwear, torn clothes, or other items that are damaged or no longer work.

  3. Step 3

Price your items with masking tape or garage sale stickers. The trick to pricing garage sale items is to start a little high. Garage sale customers will be looking for a bargain, and they will try to bargain with you at the garage sale. Pricing items a little high will give you plenty of room to bargain with customers at the sale.

  4. Step 4

Place your items to be sold at the garage sale on tables or on top of furniture you are selling. Garage sale items sell better when they are easy for customers to reach. Avoid putting items on the ground. Put items for children lower to the ground than items for adults.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is okay to sell things such as TVs that are broken at the garage sale if you make sure to let your customer know they do not work!
  • Do not work a garage sale by yourself. For safety reasons it is best to have a buddy to help you.
