How to Add Friends to Your Facebook Account

Friends on your Facebook account

Facebook is an excellent way to connect with a social network of friends and family members. When you first create your Facebook profile, you have no friends on your friend list -- an uncomfortable position. Don't waste any time; start looking for friends with whom to share your interests and activities. Reconnect with former classmates or coworkers. It's easy to get started.

Instructions

1. Log in to your Facebook account. Click on the "Friends" tab located on the left side of your home page under your profile picture thumbnail image.

2. Use the following page to invite friends to join you on Facebook based on email addresses from your contact lists. Several "lists" are already preconfigured for a search, including Yahoo!, AOL, mac.com, Skype and others. Facebook will send a friend request email to every person on your contacts list if that is what you want. If you have already added a few friends, there will likely be suggestions of people you might know at the bottom of the page, because you have a mutual friend. If you recognize a name, click the "Add Friend" button next to her name to send a friend request.

3. For a broader search, input your high school or college and class year into the search box at the top of the page. View the results for people you may recognize from the past. Use the "Add Friend" button to send a friend request.

4. When you have a few confirmed friends, visit their profiles and view their friend lists. It is likely you may know some of the people on their lists. If so, click on the name and send a friend request.

5. Wait for the acceptances of your friend requests. Each one must be accepted before you can visit the individual's profile page.

6. Now that you have an active friend list, Facebook will occasionally make potential friend suggestions on your home page.
