Help Your Child Practice Spelling Words

It can be scary for children to be faced with spelling tests at school regularly. At home it can be tedious for them to practice spelling the words over and over again. They would much rather be out with their friends playing outside. You can help to build your child's self confidence when you find fun ways for them to practice their spelling words. This way they are not only having a good time but learning as well. Try one of these interesting ways to help prepare your child for their next spelling test.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Use finger paints -

Set up an area on your table or floor, first lay down newspapers, then some papers for them to finger paint onto. If you are to worried about the messes, then use regular paints and paper to practice spelling words.

  2. Step 2

    Use play dough -

Make different shapes with play dough and then spell out words. Clay also works well for this.

  3. Step 3

    Use pipe cleaners -

Shape pipe cleaners into all sorts of shapes, and then have then spell out words.

  4. Step 4

    Use chalk -

Outside allow your child to write out their spelling letters using chalk. You can also buy dark paper and use light colored chalk to write on for indoors.

  5. Step 5

    Shaving cream -

Place a plate or two onto a flat surface and spray some shaving cream into the plates. Then have them rite the letters spelling out words using their fingers.
Another version using shaving cream is to fill a plastic back and completely seal it. The have your child write write letters ontop of the bag and it will appear as letters.

  6. Step 6

    Use glue and glitter -

Allow your child to write out the selling words using the glue. Then they can add some glitter to help them have even more fun learning the words.
