How to Volley a Soccer Ball

The easiest time to strike the ball with power is when the ball is already off the ground.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Soccer Apparel
  • Soccer Cleats
  • Soccer Shin Guards
  • Soccer Uniforms
  • Soccer Videos
  • soccer balls
  1. Step 1

    Determine where a ball in the air will hit the ground.

  2. Step 2

    Arrive at that spot a split second before the ball.

  3. Step 3

    Plant your non-kicking foot as you would if the ball was resting on the ground.

  4. Step 4

    Position the knee of your kicking leg above the ball as it descends toward your foot.

  5. Step 5

    Kick the ball at its centerline.

  6. Step 6

    Point your toes at the ground to maximize power.

  7. Step 7

    Turn your toes parallel to the ground and cock your ankle to increase the odds of connecting with the ball.

  8. Step 8

    Follow through on your kick.

Tips & Warnings
  • When the ball is coming at you from a side angle, you have to adjust your body to accommodate it.
  • Sometimes you'll have to leave your feet to hit a volley. Try to use the same motion as if you had a foot planted.
  • Hitting a volley takes good foot-eye coordination. Learn to trust yourself enough to take your eyes off the ball and look at your target.
