Easy Italian Beef Recipe
Easy Italian Beef Recipe

When the air turns crisp and you’re in the mood for some good ‘ole comfort food, there’s nothing like warm Italian beef smothering your favorite sandwich roll. Here is an easy to prepare Italian beef recipe that is delicious. My son remembers the wonderful aroma that filled the house when I made Italian beef during his childhood and it is at the top of the request list for me to prepare when he comes to visit.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3-5 lb. Rump or Chuck Roast
  • Olive Oil
  • 2 large cans of Progresso French Onion Soup
  • Mushrooms (sliced)
  • Tbsp Fresh Minced Garlic
  • Tbsp Fennel Seed
  • Tsp Dried Basil
  • Tsp Dried Oregano
  • Fresh Cracked Pepper
  • Bay Leaf
  1. Step 1

Trim off excess fat, cut the roast into 3 or 4 smaller pieces. Add olive oil to a large pan on the stovetop, place roast beef pieces in pan and brown on all sides. After browning, drain excess oil from the pan.

  2. Step 2

Add all of the ingredients as listed to the beef. On medium heat, bring ingredients to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover and slow cook for 4-6 hours, or until the roast is very tender and shredable. The last 15 - 20 minutes, you can add sweet or hot peppers if you like for added flavor.

  3. Step 3

Remove bay leaf, and shred the beef, pulling apart with a fork. Using a slotted spoon, place Italian beef on top of your favorite type of sandwich roll or bun. I like to use onion rolls, crusty Italian rolls and Hawaiian bread. When serving, I usually have several types of rolls and buns available to choose from.

  4. Step 4
Serve With Au Jus On Side

Serve the au jus broth on the side for dipping, or sip as a soup along with your Italian beef sandwich. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • This Italian beef recipe can also be slow-cooked in a crock pot all day.
  • Check the roast beef periodically to make sure that the liquid has not boiled dry. If you have your heat on low, this should not be a problem.
  • Italian beef freezes well and is just as good, if not better when you are ready to serve it again.
