Step 1
Cover up your bare floors -
If you have tiles or wood floors, consider placing a durable rug in the entryway. Choose one made acrylic or nylon or similar fabric but one that is also large and soft. You want it to be able to handle foot traffic going in and out, as well as keeping the entryway warm and cozy. -
Step 2
Hang artwork -
Wither it be pictures of your family, or other pretty artwork, even a mirror, it adds personality to this area. Just don't overdo it with to many pieces as it will look cluttered in this area. Keep it simple with a couple of your favorite pieces. -
Step 3
Lighting -
Choose a nice light fixture that best suits this area of your home. You may want to opt for a light that has dimming controls. This is great as you can set the mood with the lighting. For instance when you are having a dinner party or holiday gathering, you can set the mood with dim lighting. Then when you need brighter lighting you can turn it up. If you have a lamp in this area, opt for one with the same dimming features. -
Step 4
Consider paining or wallpaper -
You can add just a touch of paint to the walls or even just paint the ceiling a bold color. You can also choose a wallpaper to add texture to your entryway. You can customize this area anyway you like with paint. Paint the entire wall, half the wall, the ceiling, or even designs onto the wall. -
Step 5
Consider the right furniture -
If you have the space, consider placing a nice table against the wall. Then you can add a beautiful array of flowers as a centerpiece on the table. Depending on the season you can also place an item to bring the season into your home. For instance, in the fall, place a pumpkin on the table, for winter, place an item that will show the season off well. Candles always make this area look inviting. Also a small bowl for keys or lose change. Just avoid making this a clutter zone! This is also a perfect spot for a lamp if there is no overheard lighting.
If you use jackets a lot, consider placing a nice coat hanger near the door for easy access to your coats. Use you imagination and place what suits your personality. A bench eat will look beautiful here, or book shelves.
