Windows 7 is the new Microsoft operating system that comes out in October. Computers bought from June 26, 2009 till December 2009 is eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 7.

The upgrade is worth to get regardless of when you decided to try it out on your computer. Many computer companies also offer this free upgrade. It is highly recommend to back up your computer before installing Windows 7.

Windows 7 should install over Vista without loss of data. Data will have to be backup if installing over other operating systems.

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Vista Bought from June 26, 2009 till December 2009
  1. Step 1

    Check to make sure your computer was bought in the time frame. The time frame is from June 26, 2009 till now. The computer needs to also have Windows Vista on it.

  2. Step 2

    Contact the company where the computer was brought from and provide them with your address.

    Many companies will have a form to fill out on their web site. The link to the dell website about the free upgrade to Windows 7 is listed below.

    The upgrade to Windows 7 will be comparable to the version of Vista you bought.

  3. Step 3

    Install Windows 7 when it arrives in the mail.

    A Disk will arrive with directions. It is best to backup important data. Install the Windows 7 disk and follow the directions on the screen.
