How to Keep Chipmunks Away From My Tomato Plants

Chipmunks may be cute and fun to watch, but they can wreak havoc on tomato plants if they get the notion to nibble on the fruiting plants. Repelling these acrobatic rodents can be challenging, especially since chemical pesticides can cause harm to the animals and your plants. There are safe alternatives that you can produce at home with effective results. Employ these tactics to successfully keep chipmunks away from your tomato plants.

Things You'll Need

• Garlic
• Red pepper
• Sealable plastic bag
• Hammer
• Pint container
• Water
• Strainer
• Spray bottle
• 1 tsp. liquid dish soap
• 1 tsp. vegetable oil

Instructions

1. Place one clove of garlic and one red pepper into a sealed plastic bag.

2. Smash the ingredients in the bag with a hammer. Be careful not to tear the bag in the process.

3. Add the contents of the bag to a container with 1 pt. of water.

4. Use a strainer to remove large pieces of pepper and garlic from the solution.

5. Pour the solution into a clean spray bottle and add 1 tsp. liquid dish detergent and 1 tsp. vegetable oil.

6. Secure the lid on the spray bottle and shake vigorously.

7. Spray the solution onto the tomato plants to repel pesty chipmunks.
