How to Become a Tae-Bo Instructor
Tae Bo is a trademarked kick-boxing, dance, and fitness program created by world renowned martial artist and actor Billy Blanks. Tae Bo combines a variety of martial arts and fitness movements in an intense cardio workout. It strives to make people aware of their physical and mental mechanics in order to strengthen and build their bodies and wills. As Tae Bo is a privately developed program, you must be certified through the official organization in order to teach it.

1
Get yourself in top physical shape. The Tae Bo certification program is notorious for a fast-paced and physically intense curriculum. You need to make sure that you are competent to undertake the required training. The minimum requirement is nine months of physical fitness training prior to the camp.
-
2
Get your CPR certification (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation), required for Tae Bo teacher training. Visit the American Heart Association website to familiarize yourself with the rules and procedures of CPR, and to find local courses. You can become certified at your local hospital or community center, or even through an online source such as Cprtoday.com.
-
-
3
Collect two letters of recommendation. Use professional references, preferably from health centers or private gyms, who can verify your experience in the fitness industry and give a positive review of your experience and character.
-
4
Apply to the Tae Bo Boot Camp, the teaching certification course for Tae Bo (see teamtaebo.com). In addition to meeting the prerequisites above, you'll need to submit a personal statement and pay the enrollment fees. Once you have enrolled in the camp, you will receive a Tae Bo manual. Make sure you read this manual carefully, because it provides crucial information important to successfully passing the course and becoming certified.
-
5
Attend and complete the training camp, and pass your written and physical exams to receive teaching certification. Camps are usually three full days, from eight in the morning to five in the evening, and consist of lectures, training, and physical and written exams.
-
6
Send your resume to local gyms, health centers, neighborhood YMCAs and community centers and apply for teaching positions. Or you may want to market yourself independently and teach privately.
-
7
Keep current with the Tae Bo community and maintain your certification to teach by attending the required re-certification course annually.
