How to Do Pom Poms
Pom poms can be made into a topper for a hat, hanging accessories on winter wear or even small crafted animal bodies. Using yarn and scissors, you can make pom poms of any size in a few simple minutes.

1
Wrap yarn around your fingers or a strip of cardboard several times. If you use a strip of cardboard, you should wind the yarn around it in a single layer down the entire length of the cardboard (cut to be approximately 3 to 4 inches long). Then repeat until you have three or four layers. The width of your cardboard will determine the size of your pom pom. Likewise, the number of fingers you use will also determine the pom pom's size. The wider your base, the larger your pom pom.

2
Gently pull the loops of yarn off of the cardboard (or your fingers) and tie a separate piece of yarn around the middle to secure the loops. (Keep this tying length approximately 6 inches long so you can use it to attach your pom pom to a project later.) You will now have a series of yarn circles tied in a bundle.

3
Cut along the sides of the circles opposite the yarn tie (in other words, cut open the loops). Now you will have a series of small yarn lengths tied together.
-
4
Trim the yarn lengths until they start to take on a spherical shape. Your pom pom is on its way to completion. All you have to do now is keep trimming until your pom pom shape is uniform. Fluff with your fingers to remove any stray strands of yarn, and attach your pom pom to your next crafting project.
