How to Unlock a Whirlpool Duet Washing Machine
The door of the Whirlpool Duet washing machine will lock and unlock automatically based on a number of preset conditions. If the appliance determines a problem with the system or a mechanical failure occurs, the door will not unlock automatically. You can manually unlock the door. Does this Spark an idea?

Lower toe panel removal

Unplug the power cord of the washer from the outlet.

Locate the toe panel. This is the section of metal at the bottom of the front of the washer, directly below the door. Remove the three screws on the bottom flange of the toe panel, which connect it to the washer.

Lift the panel slightly and pull it forward to remove.
Manually unlock door

Reach up inside the front panel and locate the door latch assembly on the right side of door.

Feel for a tear-drop shaped tab on the bottom of the door latch assembly. This tab will manually unlock the door.

Gently pull down on tab about 1/4 inch or until you hear a click. The door should open.
