How to Clean Your Maf Sensor in Subaru Outback

The MAF sensor, or mass air flow sensor, is a critical part of your engine. It measures how much air is coming from the air filter into the engine and tunes the air-fuel ratio. If the sensor is dirty, you won't be getting accurate readings, and the engine will run poorly. Cleaning it isn't a difficult process, and the benefits are great.

Things You'll Need

• Flat-head screwdriver
• Spray MAF cleaner

Instructions

1. Pop the hood and locate the MAF sensor on the intake tube. It will be a circular object inline between the air filter and the throttle body with an electrical connection.

2. Unplug the electrical connection from the MAF sensor using your hands.

3. Unscrew the hose clamps on either side of the MAF sensor using a screwdriver and pull out the MAF sensor from the vehicle.

4. Spray the inside of the sensor with the MAF cleaner. Get out all of the gunk, but don't touch the interior of the piece at all with any towels or rags which may damage the sensor.

5. Reinstall the MAF sensor in the reverse order it was removed.
