One of the nice things about carving pumpkins (besides making jack-o-lanterns) is all of the wonderful pumpkin seeds. You can use pumpkin seeds to make edible treats, add to craft projects or grow your own pumpkins when planted. Uncooked pumpkin seeds can be stored for a short period of time in a cool, dry place. You should not prepare uncooked pumpkin seeds for consumption if you have had them in storage for over a week.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Colander
  • Plate
  • Sealable bag
  1. Step 1

Place uncooked pumpkin seeds in colander and rinse them in the kitchen sink. Make sure to remove all pumpkin meat and strings.

  2. Step 2

Pour pumpkin seeds onto plate and allow to dry. The drying process could take several days. Move the seeds around periodically with your fingers so they do not stick to one another.

  3. Step 3

Put uncooked pumpkin seeds into bag and secure the top, leaving a small opening at the end.

  4. Step 4

Lay the bag of pumpkin seeds on a flat surface and push out any air.

  5. Step 5

Seal bag completely once all air is removed and store in a cool, dry place.

Tips & Warnings
  • A kitchen or dresser drawer will work well for your cool, dry place.
  • Uncooked pumpkin seeds that have been stored for longer than a few days should be used for planting purposes only, and not for consumption.
