The nose performs an important role in good health, primarily by filtering the air that we breathe. When your nose dries out, it not only makes you more susceptible to germs but can also lead to nosebleeds and sinus problems. It's important to keep moisture in your nose, especially when the air is drier than average. The March of Dimes states that there are certain steps you can take to safely moisten your nose without medication.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Nasal saline solution
  • Humidifier or vaporizer
  1. Step 1

Purchase non-medicated nasal saline spray or drops from your pharmacy, and spray the saline into each nostril according to the manufacturer's directions.

  2. Step 2

Raise the overall humidity in your home by using a humidifier or vaporizer, especially during the winter when your furnace is drying out the indoor air. If you don't have a humidifier or vaporizer, you can heat a pan of water on the stove to raise the humidity level in your home.

  3. Step 3

Take a warm shower and let the water spray into your nose, taking care not to inhale the water.

Tips & Warnings
  • Medicated nasal sprays and drops can aggravate a dry nose and make the problem worse.
