Instructions

    • 1

Watch the weather and make sure that you will apply the granular weed killer at least two days before any chance of rain. It is important that the granules have a chance to sit on the grass without being wet for at least 2 days. Apply the weed killer in the spring before the weeds start growing.

    • 2

Pour the weed killer into the lawn spreader. Adjust the lawn-spreader setting so the granules will be distributed according to the application rate shown on the particular bag of granular weed killer you have purchased (these rates vary by product).

    • 3

Walk the spreader around the yard to apply evenly, making sure not to overlap applications as you work your way back and forth across the grass.

    • 4

Use weed and feed on the lawn about four weeks after the application.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you need to plant new grass seed, wait six weeks after your last weed killer application and then use a fertilizer to revive the soil.

  • Never use a lawn spreader that does not have a control for how much product is applied per square foot.

  • Wear protective eyewear, gloves and boots during application, and wash your hands and clothes thoroughly afterward.

  • Keep children and pets off the treated area for 48 hours after application of most granular weed killer products.
