How to Remove a Maytag Refrigerator Filter
Maytag markets a line of refrigerators for residential use that offer the option of dispensing cold water. This water system can be filtered, but is is not necessary. If filtered water is not desired, the filter can be removed and the blue bypass cap that originally came on the refrigerator can be re-installed in place of the filter. Does this Spark an idea?

Open the refrigerator door.

Hold a glass under the refrigerator water dispenser, then press and hold the button to dispense water for at least two minutes, interrupting only briefly enough to empty the glass as needed.

Reach into the upper right corner of the fresh food compartment. Grasp the tab on the water filter cover. Pull the tab to open the cover.

Grasp the water filter, then turn it counterclockwise. Turn the filter until it is unscrewed from the filter head, then remove it. Set the filter in the sink to let it drain.

Wipe excess water from the filter cover with a paper towel.

Insert the blue bypass cap into the filter head. Turn the cap clockwise until it is fully seated in the filter head.

Close the water filter cover, then close the refrigerator door.

Tips & Warnings
If there is air in the water system, the filter and water might gush out of the filter head when the filter is loosened. Be sure to run the water for at least two minutes in Step 2 before attempting to remove the filter.
