Though the features are different for many of the Craftsman lawn mower models, the method for starting them is the same. Pour gasoline into the gas tank and press the primer bulb three times. The primer bulb is made of rubber and is located on the side of the lawn mower engine. Pressing the primer bulb draws gasoline from the tank into the engine.

Pull up and hold the operating bar attached to the handle. The operating bar is a safety device that allows the engine to turn on when held and shuts the engine off when released.

Turn the starter key if your lawn mower has this feature. Turning the key will start up the engine.

Pull the starter rope quickly to start the engine if your model of lawn mower does not have a starter key.

Tips & Warnings
Turn the starter key off after 5 seconds if the mower engine does not start. Leaving it on for a longer period of time may damage the mower. Wait at least 5 seconds between tries.
