How to Make Window Cleaner With Ammonia
The Illinois Department of Public Health classifies ammonia as a liquid or gas with no color and a very distinct odor. Most people will recognize the smell of ammonia because it is used in many household cleaners, particularly window cleaner. Rather than buying window cleaner from the store you can make homemade window cleaner yourself. By adding the proper ingredients you can effectively clean windows and glass with the solution and save yourself money at the same time. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Bucket
- Empty spray bottle
- Cornstarch
- Ammonia
- White distilled vinegar
- Warm water
- Rubbing alcohol
- Liquid dish soap

Get out a bucket to mix the ingredients in. You will also need an empty spray bottle to put the window cleaner in once it has been mixed.

Place 2 tbsp. of cornstarch, ½ cup of ammonia, ½ cup of white distilled vinegar and 1 gallon of warm water into the bucket.

Combine the ingredients using a tall spoon. Be sure to mix the ingredients until the cornstarch is completely dissolved.

Pour the mixture into a spray bottle. Use a funnel to transfer the window cleaner easily from the bucket to the spray bottle.

Use the mixture immediately or store it in a cool dry place until you need it.

Tips & Warnings
Mix 2 cups of rubbing alcohol, ½ cup of ammonia, 1 tsp. of liquid dish soap and 1 gallon of warm water for an alternative window cleaner. Combine the ingredients into a bucket and then transfer them to a spray bottle.
Never mix ammonia with other household cleaners, especially bleach or products containing bleach. Mixing cleaners can produce harmful fumes.
Use caution when working with ammonia. Skin contact can cause burns and prolonged exposure can be harmful when breathed in. Keep it out of reach of children.
